Multi-Disciplinary CBL

A course in Bachelor College

Since 2023, I have been actively involved in the organization of the university-wide Multidisciplinary Challenge-Based Learning (MD-CBL) course. This course runs in the fourth quartile and brings together all second-year students from every department, who work in small, diverse teams of 5 to 6 students. Each team takes on one of 25 different open-ended design or research projects, aimed at addressing real-world challenges that require creative and interdisciplinary solutions. MDCBL is a central part of the new Bachelor College 2.0 curriculum, helping students develop essential skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and self-directed learning. The first edition of the MD-CBL course started in 2025.

The MDCBL project builds upon the foundations laid by the earlier Engineering Design course but significantly expands its scope. Students from all disciplines now participate, and the variety of project topics has been broadened to reflect the diversity of societal and technological challenges they may face in their future careers.

My role within the MDCBL organization focuses on the development and coordination of the assessment processes. I am responsible for designing the assessment of student performance during project meetings and for the self-study assignments. To support this, I have developed rubrics that match the open-ended and multidisciplinary nature of the projects. We also use peer evaluation tools, which allow students to reflect critically on their own contribution and that of their teammates, promoting both personal growth and team learning.
