| Oct 02, 2026 | Interview in Cursor on Aerospace Systems Engineering track This week, I was interviewed by Martina Silbrníková from Cursor about our new Aerospace Systems Engineering master’s track at Eindhoven University of Technology! The track will launch in September 2027, and applications are already open! In the interview, we discussed how the enthusiasm of our students inspired us to develop this new track, how we build on the aerospace expertise already present at TU/e, and why we focus on systems engineering: understanding aircraft, drones and spacecraft as complex, interconnected systems. We also talked about our ambitions to strengthen collaborations with industry in the Brainport region and contribute to the future of aerospace, from sustainable aviation and lightweight structures to autonomous flight. Many thanks to Martina for the enjoyable conversation and the great article! 🚀 Read the full article here: www.cursor.tue.nl read more... |

| Oct 01, 2026 | Registration for new Aerospace Sysyrm Engineering track is now open We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the new Aerospace Systems Engineering track at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)! The track is part of the Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering and will welcome its first students in September 2027. The track offers a multidisciplinary approach to aerospace engineering, combining aerodynamics, structures and materials, propulsion, and control systems. With a strong focus on systems engineering, students will learn to design, analyse, and integrate complex aerospace systems. Through hands-on projects and close connections with the aerospace industry, we aim to prepare the next generation of aerospace engineers. We look forward to welcoming our first group of students in September 2027 and building this exciting new programme together! Interested in joining us? | Sep 25, 2026 | Momentum diploma ceremony Bachelor Mechanical Enigneering On September 25, I had the privilege of personally handing out diplomas to some of the graduates of our Bachelor’s programme in Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. It was a very special day. Having worked with many of these students in different courses and projects over the years, it was great to be there at the end of their Bachelor’s and celebrate this moment with them and their families. To all our graduates: congratulations on this achievement! I wish you all the best in your future studies and careers. And I am very happy to have already seen many familiar faces continuing their journey in our Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering. read more... |
| Jun 16, 2026 | Program Director I am happy to share that, as of May 1, 2027, I will be the new Program Director of the Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology! After many years of involvement in education, I am looking forward to taking on this new role and working with colleagues and students to further develop our Master’s program. | Jul 04, 2025 | As an AI Connector at the Academy for Learning and Teaching (ALT) at Eindhoven University of Technology, I aim to bridge the gap between developments in artificial intelligence and their practical application in higher education. My involvement with generative AI started in late 2022, when I discovered that ChatGPT could solve programming assignments I was designing for my students. This led to an experimental study in early 2023, which revealed both the opportunities and challenges of using AI in education. While students used AI effectively for coding, debugging and learning support, we also observed reduced collaboration and lower-quality outcomes. Since then, I have been actively involved in research, developing guidelines and exploring how AI can support teaching, learning and assessment. In my role as AI Connector, I want to build on these experiences by connecting educators, sharing practical insights and encouraging experimentation with AI across the university. My main objective is to help colleagues integrate AI into their education in a responsible and meaningful way, while keeping the development of students’ knowledge, skills and critical thinking at the centre. | May 07, 2025 | Britt Cordwener successfully defended her PhD Thesis. Britt Cordewener defended her PhD thesis for the Department of Mechanical Engineering on May 6th. There’s a big demand for flexible, stretchable and cost-effective electronic devices in this digital era. In response, (3D) printed electronics have gained significant momentum, enabling the fabrication of lightweight, customizable devices with embedded circuitry in a single production process. Though, key challenges such as the reliability of conductive interconnects prevent printed electronics from widespread adoption. Under mechanical strain, microscopic cracks can form within these materials, disrupting electrical conductivity and leading to premature device failure. Britt Cordewener presents a novel numerical framework within her PhD research to predict how cracks initiate and propagate in sintered conductive materials and how they contribute to increasing electrical resistance. This knowledge can be used to improve durability and ensure long-term functionality of printed and flexible electronics. Read the article here Read more about the project LEE-BED-H2020 read more... |

| May 01, 2025 | Does ChatGPT make you smarter? Or lazier and more dependent? Interview with Cursor I have been interview by Cursor on my work onthe use of ChatGPT in education. Does ChatGPT make you smarter? Or lazier and more dependent? More and more students are using ChatGPT for their studies, but does it actually help them move forward? ChatGPT and other generative AI models can be useful tools for students. Nonetheless, their use also raises questions about dependence, critical thinking, creativity and the line between original work and plagiarism. Associate professor Joris Remmers explores the pros and cons of this technology in education. Read the full article here. read more... |
| Apr 22, 2025 | Start of new MD-CBL course After more than two years of development, we’ve officially launched our brand new Multidisciplinary Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) course! This week marked the kick-off lectures for 25 unique projects, each centered around a real-world design or research challenge. What makes this course so exciting is its scale and its multidisciplinarity: 🧑🎓 1850 students, all 2nd-year Bachelor students across all majors are participating 🤝 Multidisciplinary teams of 5 or 6 students, each bringing their unique background and expertise 🧠 25 different challenges, ranging from design challenges to open-ended research projects 🌍 Sustainability is the overarching theme tying all projects together This course is not just about solving problems—it’s about learning to work together across disciplines on real-life challenges. The projects will be concluded with final presentations in June, where students will share the solutions and outcomes of their projects. A big thank you to my colleagues in the organising team that worked hard to make this happen: Bart van Esch (course coordinator), Didi Sewüster and Eline Vrenken; all coordinators and teachers of the 25 different projects; over 100 Teaching Assistants that will supervise the different groups and all supporting staff in the labs, workshops and teacher support departments across the university. Finally, best of luck to all the students participating in this course. I am really looking forward to seeing the innovative outcomes of these projects. Linkedin post read more... |
